Redeemed itself from 2.5 to 3 stars on the last two pages.
My main issue with this book was the complete lack of emotion. Plot twists, character developments and deaths passed by with not so much as a reaction from me. It felt like the author was a reporter, writing a historical fiction. He was far too distant in his writings.
The world building is incredible and makes up 2.5 of the 3 stars. Bacigalupi is probably the best world builder I've ever read. It's a real shame he couldn't write his characters into his world properly.
