I'm a self-published author from South Australia. My first book, Soul Fire, is a YA fantasy romance.

From a Buick 8

From a Buick 8 - Stephen King Fantastically creepy.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns

The Girl of Fire and Thorns - Rae Carson A surprisingly enjoyable read. I have to admit, the cover and blurb do this book no favours. I thought this was going to be the most generic YA fantasy... and I'm so glad I was proven wrong.

A chubby MC whose character transformation was probably the most believeable I've read in a while - because I really wasn't expecting it! Fans of Tamora Pierce will love this, the main character reminds me a lot of Tris from the Emelan series.

The only reason this doesn't have five stars is because the last quarter of the book felt... detached from the rest, like it was two drafts kind of cobbled together. Humberto just randomnly died, and then so did Alejandro... I mean, I'm glad it wasn't this weird love triangle but I just saw so much potential in those storylines, to suddenly cut them out seemed clunky. And the ending was a tiny bit weird, I mean, the amulet attaching to her stomach and 'spinning like a pinwheel'? I had enough trouble visualising and making my peace with the Godstone, it was just a little too much for me.

I highly recommend this to those who want something to break the stereotypical YA fantasy mold.

Sisters Red

Sisters Red - Jackson Pearce Been wanting to read this for a long time, and I'm glad I have. Loved this book, can't wait to read the next.
More Sofia? YES

GIVE IT!

Gideon Marchant is totally Knave.

This Shattered World

This Shattered World - Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner This book took about 150 pages for me to really get into it, but when I did, I couldn't put it down.

I love this series so hard. I love the two authors and how they work together, and I'm so so infinitely glad that they've engineered the books the way they have. Each book can be read as a standalone, with new characters, and I adore them for that. Too often we're asked to tag along on a journey that barely fills one book, but gets dragged out across three. The Starbound Trilogy is a refreshing change and I hope more authors follow their lead.

These Broken Stars

These Broken Stars - Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner 4.5 stars. Loved it.

An Ember in the Ashes

An Ember in the Ashes - Sabaa Tahir Beautiful world building, probably the best I've read in a long time, nice writing, refreshinglying brutal violence but in the end...

Painfully predictable. This book was riding the five star wave until halfway through when the characters began to change and contradict themselves. Felt very forced and planned so that we'd accept the romance, which I'm not happy about and frankly bored by.

Nevertheless, will be buying the sequel, because a lot of questions were left unanswered.

11/22/63

11/22/63 - Stephen King UPDATE: This is getting turned into a mini-series!! YES
